What Hangs in the Balance

Life is a balancing act. The choices we make tip the scales one way or the other. Modernity seems to scoff at us trying to balance our lives. Tedious, tenuous, and tiring; this is balancing the spiritual self, the emotional self and the physical self.

Untitled X

Private Collection, Riverside, CA

Contrasts in color take center stage in this work. Seen on a sky blue background, the colors truck our eyes into seeing different hues and color variations. Complimenting the paint is a piece of air chased copper with a matching blue patina. The flow and movement of the paint is echoed in the flow and movement of the copper creating harmony between paint and metal

Hanafubuki

Hanafubuki is the Japanese term for experiencing the falling cherry blossoms in Spring.  The blossom-laden branch peeks from above and the viewer is held in anticipation for the first blossom to fall.

Multiverse

Exhibition: Busan Annual Market of Art, Seoul, 2021

This work represents the possibilities of other dimensions or universes; some parallel, other intersecting. The swirling copper wire are moments of insight and flashes of brilliance which allows us to expand our consciousness beyond what we are and where we are. Though these moments bring us out of ourselves, our minds cannot pierce the veil of your universe and we forever seek that which we cannot see.

Anguis

Private Collevtion, Palm Springs, CA

Primary colors blend to make countless other colors. Kindness, love, temperance, mercy; they all blend together to make a strong person. These "primary virtues" represented by the primary colors, when combined, blend to make many other colors.  Just as virtues can blend to make other positive attributes.

Spiral 1

Lines, Shapes & Objects International Art Competition finalist!

Think sea shells, the center of a sunflower, the budding fern frond, pine cones, hurricanes, and galaxies. Spirals are seen at sacred sights all over the world. They show a journey, a universal pattern of growth and evolution.  It is whom-like and symbolizes fertility, life force, and death.

Series III, No. 1

Gravity naturally spreads the paint in a circle. When the canvas is tipped, the natural flow is distorted. This is further exacerbated by dragging paint through the circles. So is humanity's relationship with our planet. What was once perfect has been distorted by our greed and blind misuse of resources. The copper discs reflect thousands of points of light representing our opportunities to heal what is damaged.

A Bruised Reed

Private Collection, La Quinta, CA

A thin and seemingly frail reed can be bent and bruised but not broken. Our world prizes strength and might above all. Gentleness is not the absence of strength; meekness is not weakness. These reeds call us to gentleness and to give of ourselves without expecting anything in return; as is the true nature of art.

Sins of the Father

If you sin, how long should you bear the burden? Can there be redemption? The ability to forgive has diminished. The hot colors in this work are the things we are least proud of. The copper, also bent and dented is punctuated by a glimmering bowl awaiting to be filled with forgiveness.
